The Fisherman Magazine Weekend Video Forecast 4/21/2022 – New England
Slot stripers have arrived in the Rhode Island surf, the landfalling linesiders have been centered around Newport and sections of the South County beaches. Fresh-run stripers have also shown up on the beaches of Nantucket Sound and along the south side of Martha’s Vineyard. Blackfish action really ramped up over the past 7 days with good catches from Long Island Sound, a double digit from Rhody and catches on the rise around the West End of the Canal. Freshwater fishing remains strong all over the Northeast.

CAPE ICE IS GONE
March is not the meanest month of the year, February is. Weve had two consecutive 60-degree days with hardly a zephyr, then a day later on Super Bowl Sunday the high temperature is 30 degrees and the trace of snows that was predicted puts eight inches up against the boat shed doors. For the first time in years we have had some safe ice on Cape ponds, in one case a reliable source told me they had a solid 6-inches in one location where they caught some trout, perch and a few pickerel. But spikes in temperature and snow covering the ice, I would not venture out onto any of the remaining ice unless I saw others fishing on it and reporting that there was 5 inches minimum.
Several of the shops will be displaying their wares and services at the RISAA fishing show in Providence in early March. Lets hope the cases of the virus continue to decline and that the show goes on to become the great success it always was. I plan to be there in the same booth I was working last year and look forward to seeing you there.
