Stripers Heading East - Blackfish & Cod On Reefs
The city and western island striper bite kept up through the week. We even heard some bigger fish are starting to make their way eastward on the island as well. Don’t forget this can be the best time of the year for the spring blackfish season as the water warms up. Codfish are still making a showing on the reefs and are keeping boat anglers busy when the tog bite is at a lull. The contributors have been out and about too and have plenty of local intel to share in this week’s forecast.

Tom Melton-South Shore Highlights

The action is building as the weeks go by. This week we heard of bass to 35 inches from Great South Bay to Shinnecock. Some weakfish and bass in Quogue Canal area. Up island towards Great South, bass are on the docks taking bunker, and in the State Channel and Moses Bridge area on soft plastics. Weakfish have also made a presence in Great South Bay. Flounder action is pretty quiet, but anglers bottom bouncing and jigging for blackfish are finding a few. On the Laura Lee, the cod bite with other bottom dwellers mixing in has been very consistent.
