Martha from Surfland reported there are a lot of fish around there are strong signs that the fall run is starting. Bluefish action remains very steady particularly for the boat fishermen. Striper fishing has definitely improved. Beach fishing picked up considerably this week but a lot of weeds moved in on Sunday putting a damper on the activity. Martha told me a young angler from their junior program landed a 45-inch striper from the beach on Saturday. Anglers fishing from the jetties at low tide has been productive. Tube and worm boat fishermen in the river have also been enjoying success. There are also good numbers of stripers in Plum Island Sound. Barring any more fall nor?easters fishing should continue to build as we move into October.

Martha from Surfland reported striper fishing has been pretty much the same as last week. Fishing for both blues and stripers was still good right up until Thursday and New England’s brush with Hurricane Lee. Boat fishermen are having great luck trolling for bluefish in 20 to 50 feet of water. The mouth of the Merrimack River has been productive at the bottom of the outgoing tide. Joppa Flats and up river in the Merrimack has been very productive on all sizes of fish including many 40-inch plus jumbos. The fall striper run hasn’t started yet but everyone is poised ready for it to start any day now. Surfland is open 7 days a week.

Right around 1962, Ray Moulton of Surfland Bait & Tackle came up with the idea of photographing customers who came by with good fish. More than fifty years later, this tradition continues at Surfland and they’ve amassed quite a collection. Today, proud anglers can still get their fish on the wall for a couple of bucks and add themelves to the books. If your fish eclipses 50 pounds the guys at Surfland have a special place reserved on the wall which memorializes some 60 or so other sportsmen from the 60's through today.
